Increasing WTP Flow Capacity using series flow in parallel flow trains.

TANK DESIGN RETENTION TIMES (at MAXIMUM FLOW RATE) PARAMETERS:

Flash/Rapid Mixer Tank: 40 Seconds.

Primary Floc Chamber: 15 Minutes.

Secondary Floc Chamber: 15 Minutes.

Maximum Design Flow: 5.2 MGD (24 hour basis).

The flow scheme for water treatment using top entering mixers is as follows: flash mixing to primary flocculator to secondary flocculator to the settling basis.  This is a in-series flow scheme.  To increase the overall flow rate capacity, a parallel in-series train is set side by side.  The prior flow scheme indicated a maximum flow rate of 2.6 MGD.  The capacity was doubled by adding a separate in-series train of flocculators, increasing the capacity of the flash mixer and then dividing its flow between both flocculator trains.

So adjust for a Water Treatment Plant's specific maximum flow rate, a combination of floc basin sizes are presented to the 15 minute detention time in each floc chamber based upon your specific flow rate.
